One of the longest-running bands to come out of the British punk movement’s first generation, The Mekons began making music in 1977. In the past, the group has dabbled in genres ranging from folk to reggae, but the eight Mekons members are still defined by their brand of post-apocalyptic cowboy punk.

The Mekons’ 28th album, Ancient and Modern, is infused with this signature sound, plenty of hooks and clever, thought-provoking lyrics. Younger bands may equate being cool with acting indifferent, but The Mekons’ members aren’t afraid to put everything on the table and have fun doing it.
